The Cooling Tower Trifecta Prevents Downtime

The Cooling Tower Trifecta Prevents Downtime

This equipment and these 3 techniques help keep your cooling tower operating at peak efficiency, avoid downtime, and ensure high-quality water for plant personnel:

  1. pH. To keep the pH correct in your cooling towers and dissolve the calcium carbonate that causes scaling, you probably use an acid addition like sulfuric. Dissolving scaling helps system efficiency. By monitoring the pH adjustment with a digital Memosens® sensor such as the SE 555, better corrosion control and earlier detection of process breakthrough is achievable. When it comes to scaling, the sooner you detect it, the better.
  2. ORP. Keep your water contaminant-free in your cooling tower. Your system probably has a chemical skid that doses an oxidizer to sanitize the water. A reliable ORP measurement is required to ensure oxidizer levels are adequate to prevent bacterial contamination, which can lead to potential health issues for plant personnel. M4 Knick's SE 565 provides accurate and repeatable ORP monitoring to help maintain a healthy cooling water system.
  3. Conductivity. The automatic blowdown control system requires an accurate conductivity measurement of the water. This measurement controls when high conductivity water is "blown down" or removed from the cooling tower and "new" low conductivity makeup water is brought into the system. If the sensor is unreliable, it can not only waste a lot of water unnecessarily, it can also fail to blowdown when it should.

You can download all the details from The Cooling Tower Monitoring Applications Solutions. Because it is a moist environment, sensors should be designed to be completely submersible. The SE 630 is a rugged conductivity sensor that will resist corrosion and provide a long-lasting and repeatable measurement.

By employing these three tools in your cooling tower system, you will run more efficiently and safely while saving water at the same time.
